On Monday June 1st flooding rains swept through the area, leading to local flooding and streams to rise over their banks. The New Market Volunteers prepared for this event by checking and ensuring that our water rescue equipment and personnel were ready for deployment. At 2136 hours, Boat 15 (AFC Thews) was dispatched mutual aide to Montgomery County to a vehicle stranded in high water with one occupant inside. The call was located on Gue Road about a mile off of Ridge Road. First arriving units found an SUV with water up to the wheel wells in a raging stream. Boat 15 arrived and the crew of four volunteers went to work formulating a rescue plan and then performing a shallow water crossing to reach the stranded person with the assistance of C704D. The victim was placed in a personal flotation device and walked back to safety. The rescue took about 10 minutes. Crews cleared a short time later. Good job by all involved.
