On Sunday June 21st at 1226 hours, units from Frederick City and surrounding areas were alerted for a swift water rescue on the Monocacy River in the area of Mococacy Boulevard. New Market was alerted to replace another boat on the assignment and U15/BT15(Sgt. Chapman) and C15-3(AFC Kennedy) responded on the assignment with 5 volunteers. The incident was reported to be two juvenile females stranded on an island after rafting down the river. The Monocacy River was swollen due to recent storms and was too dangerous for this type of activity. BT15 was ordered by Command to launch into the river at the boat ramp by Walmart. BT16 worked on moving by land and launching near the Dearbought development. BT15, crewed by 4 swift water technicians, located the victims on an island in the middle of the river. The victims were placed in PFD's and assisted onto the boat. The victims were then evacuated back to safety. Crews cleared a short time later. Good job by all involved.
