On Tuesday June 21st around 1900 hours, as a line of strong thunderstorms hit the region, Box 15-21 was struck for the house fire in the 13700 block of Old National Pike in Mount Airy. E152(Lt. Hanagan), RE153(Sgt. Chapman) and C15-3(AFC Kennedy) responded on the box with 10 volunteers. First due CCE12 arrived to find fire showing from the first floor of a two story apartment building. The Rapid Intervention Dispatch was requested, bringing A159(FF Garst) with 2 additional volunteers. Co. 15 units arrived shortly thereafter and joined the attack begun by CCE12. The crews made quick work of the fire and performed extensive overhaul on the fire building. Crews found smoke on the second floor, but no extension. Units remained on the scene for several hours. Chief 15-3 held the Old National Pike Command.
I would like to thank the 1st responder's for a job well done even if my family did loose everything. At least everyone from both apartments got out safely, except for our beloved guinea pigs. May they rest in peace. I particularly want to thank the fireman who wen in and got two bags for me that were in one of the bedrooms that had no fire damage. The bag had a copy of my license, social security along with my original birth certificate and DD 214. Thank you so much.
