By Captain Matthew Thews
January 24, 2018

On Wednesday January 24th around 1600 Hours, units were alerted on Carroll Box 1-9 for a house fire on Cabbage Spring Road in Mount Airy. First arriving units reported fire throughout a two large story home. Operations quickly moved to an exterior attack due to a lack of reliable water supply and the well advanced fire. A rapid intervention dispatch, tanker task force, and 2nd Alarm were requested by command. E152 (DFRS Lt. Coe) and C15 (FC Nalborczyk) responded with 5 personnel on the 2nd Alarm. The engine was used for numerous suppression tasks, including the fire interior attack and overhaul once the fire was knocked down. E152 was used to shiitake water due to limited availability of tankers. C15 was the staging officer throughout the incident. U15 (Lt Thews) was later added to the call to relieve the day shift crew with 6 volunteers. The Co.15 units operated until roughly 2030 hours. Carroll Chief 1-2 (Lowman) held the Cabbage Spring Road Command.
